Having a good publication list is crucial for a researcher, for completing a PhD degree, finding an academic job, a grant, being promoted, and becoming famous in your subject areas. Due to the cutting-edge and fast-changing nature of research in computer science, conferences are as important as journals. Maybe even more important.

Anyway, recruiters or funding committees have to rank candidates. So they need rank conferences. Such a conference ranking will always be fuzzy and controversial, but there are several temptatives. Generally, the rankings depend on the facts
